| The
Steranko History of Comics #1 - 1970
I
wasn't originally going to include these, since they're not
comic books, per se, but--you demanded it!
This
is volume one of a two-volume set chronicling nothing less
than the history of comics by one of its greatest innovators,
(Jim) Steranko.
Features
articles (with lots of covers and art)on the beginning of
comics, including the pulps, adventure strips, Superman, Batman,
Captain America, and the early days of DC and Marvel. Dedicated
to Jack Kirby, with an introduction by...Federico Fellini!
Wow!
Interesting
bit--as you can see, the cover depicts Spider-Man, the Hulk
the FF, and other 60s Marvel stars, but this book (and its
successor) never makes it past the mid 40s, timeline-wise.
(Sorry
for the stitched-together covers...these things are impossible
to scan!)
88
pages, cover by Steranko (hey...where's Aquaman?).

The
Steranko History of Comics #2 - 1970
This
is volume two of a two-volume set chronicling nothing less
than the history of comics by one of its greatest innovators,
(Jim) Steranko.
This
one features articles (with lots of covers and art)on the
Marvel Family, flying heroes, other comics publishers, plus
a whole section devoted to Will Eisner's The Spirit.
It even reprints a full-length Spirit Sunday strip from 1948!
Think Eisner's work couldn't possibly look any cooler? Try
it at treasury size!
(Sorry
for the stitched-together covers...these things are impossible
to scan!)
132
pages, cover by, again, Steranko (also again...where's
Aquaman?).
