New Fun #1- 1935

In my continuing research for this site, I'll come across some piece of comica obscura that I never knew before, and it forces me to revise some of what I've previously written here on the site.

I had been aware--though never seen in person--DC Comics' very first series, New Fun, but only recently learned that all six issues of the series measured at 10x15". This wasn't so much bucking the regular comic book size because, of course, comics were so new that there was no "regular" size. In fact, since comics were originally just used as a vehicle for comic strip reprints, printing comic books at the same size as the Sunday funnies only made sense. Although the big selling point of New Fun was, as its name implies, the material was entirely all-new.

After this series(and one collection, see below) DC would start a new series, New Comics, that would be in what would become the standard comic book size, relegating the treasury/tabloid/whatever you want to call it format to "special" books meant for maximum impact. Which is, of course, what this site's all about.

Not being a millionaire(yet) I don't own any of these comics, so I took the images and inside info from the GCBD. Hopefully over time I'll find more info on them. But until then, have a look at what I like to call "Treasury Comics Pre-History"...
